Synopsis:
Greece is in trouble. Monsters that Hercules once destroyed have returned. How can 10-year old
Crib save the country as Hercules did?
Her uncle, Jonathan has announced that he is the new Hercules. He has come to Greece
after losing a battle with a tiny Yorkshire Terrier, so is hardly likely to overcome a man-eating Lion or tame a many-headed monster, which kills anything that approaches.
Review:
Crib and the Labours of Hercules is a middle grade book with some illustrations. The story follows Crib and her uncle as they complete the Labours of Hercules on the mythical creatures that have been resurrected in Greece. This book was an interesting one, mostly because it has been a long time since I have read about Hercules and his labors. He competed against many a creature and now it seems that Greece has accidentally brought them all back and are hoping someone will step forward to be the new Hercules. Crib is in Greece staying with family for the holiday and when her Uncle decides he is going to be Hercules she decides she has to go with him because he is pretty out of it.

I enjoyed the story and how Crib competed with the mythical creatures through Greece, I would have loved to know how Hercules did it as well, and felt that was the only thing the story was missing to be both informational and fiction. It was a very cute concept and I loved that a little girl took charge and was able to take on the same beasts as Hercules!
